Special Needs

The school values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils.  We endeavour to provide the best learning conditions for each pupil, promoting development in understanding and social maturity alongside their peers wherever possible.  Special Education Needs are identified early and the school works closely to plan a curriculum to meet the children’s needs.

There is a learning support team led by the Special Needs Manager to provide extra support in school.  If necessary, we involve outside agencies or further specialist advice and support.

We work in partnership with the children, parents, carers, specialists and governors.

Learning Mentors

We now have learning mentors on the staff of the school.  It is the role of the learning mentor to support pupils who are underachieving individually or on small groups.

These pupils could be lacking in confidence, poor attenders, have suffered from a bereavement or upset at home - and a boost of extra support and encouragement can sometimes make all the difference to them.

The learning mentor also supports the transition of year six pupils to secondary school.

Pupils can be referred to the learning mentor either by teachers, parents or pupils themselves.

If you feel your child could benefit from some time with the learning mentor - contact your child’s teacher or the SENCO (Mrs Hampshire).
